Today, a friend of mine gave me a stick I’ve been wanting to try out for quite some time – a Seduction by Gurkha. I couldn’t wait to get home and fire that beautiful brown girl up. Once I got my little crew into bed, I knew it was going to be on.
Stick: Seduction XO
Size: Gordo (6×60)
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano
Binder: Dominican Olor
Filler: Columbian Corojo
It’s October in New Orleans, and the 71 degree night has a bit of a chill in the breeze. After a stressful week at work and a long day of playing with the kiddos, it’s a perfect night for enjoying an adult beverage and a quality cigar. Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic” is pumping out of my Pandora playlist, and the cat is laying at my feet as I toast the foot. Couldn’t ask for a better evening to wind down and let my troubles drift away in a cloud of smoke.
Time To Burn:
As I lit the Seduction’s foot, I noticed something lacking – taste. This was supposed to be a stick on the fuller side of medium, and I’d tasted more flavor and complexity from a Mcdonald’s milkshake. I seriously wouldn’t have known it was lit if I wasn’t seeing the smoke. I thought maybe pairing it with Sailor Jerry may have made me miss something from the cigar, so I stopped drinking my rum and drank straight water with my cigar. This didn’t help.
Gurkha has had a reputation in recent years of focusing more on the swag side of the industry and less on the quality of their product. I would have to say this was not the case in the construction of this stick, but definitely could have been the case on the flavor profile and marketing. The wrapper leaf was beautiful and I never had to correct its burn. I honestly never tasted anything other than a slight leather and maybe a hint of spice throughout the entire cigar, but the aroma was amazing. Even my wife commented on how good the smell was. She said it smelled like hot chocolate and cinnamon. If only those flavors had been present. But hey, it had a beautiful band on it.
I don’t totally regret the hour and a half I spent smoking this stick, but I doubt I would buy one at retail. The beautiful thing about a cigar isn’t only the taste, but the relaxation that comes with it on a perfect Fall night.
