Interview w/ Oxygen Network’s Brooklyn 11223 Star Joey Lynn

MafiaLife & Mob Candy caught up with Joey Lynn Tekulve, a few weeks after the final episode of Brooklyn 11223, season one. We were all left wondering who’s side to take between her new friends and her old ones who still hang with Christie. We had a few questions for her.

[Start of interview]

MafiaLife Blog: So, for the readers, can you tell us how you found yourself on the reality show titled Brooklyn 11223? We’re you worried about your life story being on TV for the world to see?
Joey Lynn: I was at work one night when Valona called me and told me there were 2 women who wanted to meet and speak with me. I rushed her off the phone because I was busy, not knowing what she was talking about. Next thing I know these 2 ladies come in the door with a tiny video camera. Supposedly they were out in Bay ridge and ran into the group of girls I don’t get along with.  My name was being thrown around by all of them (shocker) and afterwards these women ran into Valona. When asked who she was close with my name came up again, and from there these women wanted to meet me, and woundup in my bar. In the beginning I was very reluctant because the link between myself and the other girls was a rumor that tore our friendship apart. I didn’t want it to be the ‘attack Joey Lynn show’ and have people saying mean and untrue things about me on television. After a lot of time and thinking it through I gave in and said what the hell! My mother actually convinced me go do it.
MafiaLife Blog: Do you think it was right that nick set the girls up? There seems to be some buzz that he should get a ‘beat down’ for it. What is your point of view?

Joey Lynn: Nick was just being Nick. If you know him on a personally level like we do, you wouldn’t have been surprised by it. Yes it was dead wrong to put us in that situation because he knew what was gonna come out of it. Its bad enough both groups go out and see each other but to have us in one place with an open bar, that’s asking for it. I think it was wrong and if the point was to make me and Christie talk about our problems, it should have been went about in a different way.

MafiaLife Blog: So, you finally confessed to kissing Roberto , but that’s it. Do you regret it now? Would you do anything different if you could take it back, or do it all again?

Joey Lynn: Yes what I did was wrong, but I was young, drunk, and hanging out with people who wound up not really being my friends, who I let influence me. I am responsible for my own actions but there were different factors involved which played a role. I always say I never regret anything I do but being that I hurt Christie in such a way, yes I would take it back in a heartbeat. I do though believe everything happens for a reason and if we aren’t friends now, whose to say i’m not better off.

MafiaLife Blog: Some of the Brooklyn 11223 fans are asking for some juice. All you did was kiss? There had to be some heavy touching! Come on! What else happened? And was he a good kisser at least?

Joey Lynn: Yes there was kissing involved but definitely no sex! The episode at the bar when Christie accuses me of it happening more than once was actually the first time I was hearing that. That was untrue and it’s crazy how after all this time people are still twisting the story and making more lies. I have no recollection of what type of kisser he is it was a while ago.

MafiaLife Blog: So, you pretty much had the chance to hang with both crews in the past.  Which crew is more fun to hang out with?

Joey Lynn: I was never friends with Angelina or Kelly. Yes I knew them but no, never friends. I was very close to Christie, Carla, and still am with Toni Lynn. Everyone else in that group means nothing to me. I have to say me and Carla had the wildest times and our friendship was wild and crazy fun. The girls I hangout with now are very different. I would have to say it depends on the person and the situation.

MafiaLife Blog: It’s no secret the fans considered you the hottest of all the girls on the show. Would you consider posing for playboy if they made you an offer?

Joey Lynn: Well thank you! Playboy? I would love to but not completely naked! My self confidence isn’t up there but if it were, absolutely.

MafiaLife Blog: Your dad was murdered by the mob life. Does that give you a bad taste in your mouth about the mafia lifestyle? What’s your opinion on that life? Would you ever marry a wise guy?

Joey Lynn: I have very mixed feelings about the mob life. I despise the mafia lifestyle because it left me and my sister without a father, and my mother alone to raise a 1yr old and an unborn child. At the same time though, you know what you’re getting yourself into and what risks you’re taking by being associated with those kinds of people. I do think that today, there are way too many wanna be’s running around and its all around different than how it used to be. I would never marry a ‘wise guy’ or someone who thought they were. I know what most are like, i’ve heard what my mother and others have been through, and I know what my sister and I have dealt with because of it. I would never want to be put through it and wouldn’t want my kids to go through what i’ve been dealing with for the last 24years.

MafiaLife Blog: What are your plans for the future? You said you want to leave 11223, do you have any place in mind you would like to be? And, what would you like to be doing there?

Joey Lynn: I hate this neighborhood! No one speaks English, my neighbors change every few months and we don’t even know each others names. I want to live in a place that is more of a community than just a neighborhood, a family-oriented place. As for what I want to do, I’ve been slacking as to applying for Nursing school but then again I never thought i’d wind up on a reality show so who know?

MafiaLife Blog: Do you talk to Christie right now? Are you trying to work things out with her? Would you like to be her friend again?

Joey Lynn: Christie and I aren’t friends but we’re civil people and can stand to be in the same room together. We never really still spoke about the past but during the season I did tell her if and when shes ready, we can sit down and talk just us. I can’t say if I want to be friends with her because a lot of time has passed, people change some for the better and others not. I don’t know what changes shes made.

MafiaLife Blog: Let’s do a quick word association game. Give me the first word that comes to mind when I mention these words:

  • Nick-Jokester
  • Christie-Whiny
  • Brooklyn Boys-Over it
  • Angelina-Loud Mouth
  • Alcohol-Fun!
  • Mafia-Godfather
  • Sex-Depends With Who
  • Music-Dancing

MafiaLife Blog: Will you be coming out with any Joey Lynn products? What can we expect from you? How could the fans keep in touch if they wanted to?

Joey Lynn: I actually have some t shirts and stuff on http://teamjoey.bigcartel.com/

If I had the opportunity there’s a bunch of ideas I have products wise. The fans can keep in touch on Facebook my Joey Lynn BK11223 page, and twitter @jLynnnner
